Peat is an organic soil type formed as a result of the decrease in the water level in lake beds, the prominence of plant activities, the death of the plant with the increase in water level in winter, and the constant repetition of this natural phenomenon, as well as the alternating accumulation of plant roots and stems over thousands of years.

Peat is an organic soil conditioner. It provides an ideal growth environment by regulating the air and humidity of the soil around the roots. It does not contain nutrients. It is a very valuable material in the cultivation of potted ornamental plants and saplings. It has a fibrous structure and the pH is between 5.5 - 6.5.

Peat, also known as peat soil, is used in regions that are moist, have a lot of rainfall, and have low summer temperatures.swamp and similar grown in submerged landsof plants, (Generallysphagnum calledmosses and swamp reeds) collapse and partially rot at the bottom of the water, rotting and accumulating for years in an environment cut off from air under water, forming thick beds.
